SUMMARY:English for Academic Purposes
DESCRIPTION:Within the  Severo Ochoa Training Initiative of the IAA-CSIC we are offering the 2024 edition of «English for Academic Purposes»\, imparted by Ms. Marie Waltie of the University of Leipzig. The workshop will be in-person. Key aspects of the use of English for academic purposes will be highlighted and correct usage encouraged. Participants will comprehensively expand their competence in the academic use of English. The course will cover the following topics:  \n• Common Errors in Academic English• Writing up Results and Methods in English• Pronunciation Practice in English• Academic Discussions in English• Presenting your Academic Project in English \nFundamental knowledge of the English language as well as high motivation of the participants is a requirement because the course will be interactive. We can accommodate up to 30 participants. In case of over-subscription\, we will give preference to students and young postdocs and/or may lead selection interviews. If you are interested in participating\, please register before 31 January 2024 indicating whether you are interested in an INDIVIDUAL session of 20-25 min.

SUMMARY:Ciencia abierta y la crisis de la reproducibilidad
DESCRIPTION:La ciencia es una fantástica y gigantesca empresa humana en la que se estima que están implicadas mas de nueve millones de personas y en la que actualmente se invierte en el mundo más de un billón y medio de euros anualmente. El método científico es el instrumento que ha caracterizado a la ciencia para alcanzar su objetivo de conocer y comprender el mundo natural que nos rodea. \nLa reproducibilidad es una propiedad fundamental de la actividad científica\, ya sea observacional o experimental\, pues sin ella los resultados obtenidos de los estudios científicos carecen de la validez requerida lo que lleva aparejado el descrédito de la ciencia ante la sociedad y el derroche de recursos invertidos en llevar a cabo tales investigaciones irreproducibles. \nLa falta de reproducibilidad en la ciencia no es un problema nuevo\, pero sí que últimamente ha tomado unas dimensiones como para admitir que existe la llamada crisis de la reproducibilidad; este es un problema que no se da por igual en todas las ramas de la ciencia\, pero en todas es importante. La causa principal es el no cumplimiento estricto del método científico\, motivada por razones de índole muy diversa. \nLa Ciencia Abierta es un nuevo paradigma que\, entre otros objetivos\, trata de superar los problemas mencionados mediante la mejora en la forma de producir\, financiar\, comunicar y evaluar la producción científica. \nFecha: 22/02/2024 – 19:00Conferenciante: Emilio Sánchez-CantalejoFiliación: Profesor jubilado de la Escuela de Salud Publica y ateneísta. \n
