SUMMARY:Academic Spanish Course for Foreigners (2025)
DESCRIPTION:The Academic Spanish course for foreigners is designed to facilitate effective communication in academic and profesional contexts. Through a practical and personalized focus\, the participants will develop essential linguistic abilities to discuss scientific articles\, participate in conferences\, give presentations\, and collaborate in international projects. The program includes technical vocabulary\, beginner and advanced grammar\, and simulations of real-life situations. Moreover\, it will promote the cultural immersion to strengthen the comprehension of the Hispanic world\, and their impact on interdisciplinary investigation and collaboration. \nThis course will be taught throughout in the following blocks: \nJanuary 21st – February 27thApril 22nd – May 29thSeptember 23rd – October 30thThe course is taught by Prof. Nazira Ruíz

SUMMARY:SO-IAA School on Bayesian Statistics
DESCRIPTION:During five half days the school will cover topics from the basics of Bayesian inference over model fitting\, computational methods to simulations. \nPractical exercises will be combined with the theoretical lectures \nThe agenda will include: \n\nBasics of Bayesian Inference. A quick review of Bayes theorem\, the basics of probability and probability distributions\, followed by a fun exercise that introduces Bayesian inference in practice and how to define prior distributions. Finally\, some connection to maximum likelihood and linear regression.\nBayesian Computation. Bayesian inference in practice: the basics of sampling algorithms\, and how to know whether your model is less wrong than other models.\nBeyond the linear model: hierarchical and generalized linear models. Going beyond the basics: population inference with hierarchical Bayesian modelling\, fast inference with probabilistic and differentiable programming\, and going beyond linear regression\nSimulation-based Bayesian Inference. Bayesian inference with implicit likelihoods: how to sample posteriors when the likelihood is not accessible\, but a simulator is.\n\nProfessors: Gwen Eadie (University of Toronto) and Daniela Huppenkothen (SRON\, Netherlands)

SUMMARY:II Advanced School on Galaxy Evolution
DESCRIPTION:The school is designed for researchers at all career stages who are particularly interested in the formation and evolution of galaxies. The school is ideally positioned to offer an up-to-date scientific perspective on the recent exciting findings in extragalactic research\, especially from the JWST and other space- and ground-based facilities. \nAn exciting and bright future for observational astronomy and theoretical advancements awaits the generations of young astronomers\, thanks in large part to the array of powerful facilities available currently and also in the near future. This is the second in a series of schools that provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in this field. \nThe school consistently goes beyond standard textbook knowledge\, offering valuable insights into the current frontiers of research in both theory and observation. It strongly promotes personal interaction between lecturers\, tutors\, and participants\, fostering a welcoming environment ideal for learning and sharing knowledge. \nThe lectures and tutorials will be highly interactive\, allowing ample time for questions and discussion. To support this\, several panel discussions and afternoon tutorials will be scheduled throughout the week\, encouraging a collaborative atmosphere. Importantly\, all participants are strongly encouraged to present their ongoing work and/or future projects\, either in our dedicated speakers’ corner or during the panel sessions.

SUMMARY:Mission Critical Design
DESCRIPTION:FPGA’s and heterogeneous SoC’s are used in an increasing number of mission critical or high reliability applications. These applications span a diverse range from industrial\, medical and scientific to defense\, transportation and even space. For these devices to safely and reliability operate in an often-harsh environment\, a more rigorous design approach is required. One that introduces both stricter engineering governance in the design process and design mitigation techniques. \nAs such designing these solutions requires the designer to not only understand what techniques can be used at the logic level but also\, the wider systematic\, regulatory and environmental issues. This course will therefore present the environmental challenges and what they mean to the logic designer. Along with introducing high level concepts such as SIL level\, Reliability and Mean Time to Failure\, attendees will also gain an understanding of the importance of engineering governance. \nThe focus of this course is the development of techniques which can be used in programmable logic including Clocking & Reset strategy\, Triple Modular Redundancy\, IO Planning\, Safe State Machines and Counters\, Error Correcting Codes\, Single Event Effect Mitigation along with Verification strategies and metrics\, formal equivalence checking\, Synthesis strategies and several other advanced techniques. Each session will complete with a Lab which will demonstrate the concepts outlined in the session. Attendees will at the completion of the course have a detailed understanding of the challenges and strategies to address the creation of mission critical systems for a wide range of applications. \nADIUVO engineering and training will teach the course.
