SUMMARY:SO Colloquium – Degendering Physics: Why So Slow?
DESCRIPTION:Among the STEM disciplines\, physics has been long-known to exhibit the most skewed of gender gaps. It has been over a quarter of a century since attention has been drawn to the evidence that the over-representation of men at multiple levels in the physics enterprise is significant and global\, though to varying degrees. The evidence also has pointed to the cause being societal patriarchy leaching into academia and causing gender-based discrimination within\, a trend that is not tempered by the «objectivity» that is attributed to the physics discipline. Progress towards a more equitable and inclusive physics enterprise has been slow\, however. \nWhile the astrophysics sub-discipline could justifiably claim better progress\, I will argue that the slowness is because several mitigative interventions seek to address only the symptoms\, besides also being moulded by patriarchy. Clearly root causes need to be addressed instead\, which requires explicitly stepping away from the all-too-common “Fixing-the-women” approach\, and taking cognisance of the insights from social science scholarship. Interventions need to be interrogated on whether they will bring about long-term cultural transformation\, whether they exclude anyone and whether they could cause harm\, and whether as physicists we have really constructed «merit» in a way that actually promotes understanding our universe. SUMMARY:Beyond being Cosmic Beacons: Insights on the Role of Accreting Supermassive Black Holes in Galaxy Assembly from the Story at z~0
DESCRIPTION:Supermassive black holes (SMBH) that are found in the centres of most galaxies comply with scaling relationships that imply hand-in-hand growth of the SMBH and its galaxy bulge\, which in turn implies that the SMBHs play a significant role in regulating galaxy assembly. SMBHs grow via coalescence as a consequence of their host galaxies merging or due to accretion. Our current broad understanding is that the SMBHs influence star formation via the consequences of accretion\, which enables them to impact their environments out to spatial scales that are well beyond their gravitational sphere of influence. SUMMARY:Southern Hemisphere Asteroid Radar Program (SHARP)
DESCRIPTION:Precise knowledge of asteroid orbits and properties such as shape\, rotation state and existence of satellites is essential to assess the extent that they might represent impact hazards to the Earth\, and astronomical radar observations have been used to obtain that. Historically\, Goldstone and Arecibo planetary radar capabilities have made significant contributions to tracking many asteroids. However\, their coverage has been limited to the northern hemisphere sky and consequently have missed a fraction of NEAs during Earth flybys. \nTo fill the gap\, in recent years we have developed and demonstrated the Southern Hemisphere Radar Program (SHARP) capability using the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC)\, part of the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN)\, as transmitters and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Murriyang\, the Parkes 64m Radio Telescope\, and more recently University of Tasmania radio telescopes such as Ceduna 30-m dish as receivers. SUMMARY:SO Colloquium – Filaments: from the large-scale structure to the CGM
DESCRIPTION:I will present a characterisation of filamentary structures at different scales\, from the large-scale cosmic filaments forming the skeleton of the cosmic web\, to the smaller-scale filaments playing a crucial role in the circum-galactic medium (CGM). \nUsing the outputs of recent large-scale hydro-dynamical simulations\, I will focus on some fundamental properties of filaments at z=0\, and show how cosmic filaments evolved since z=4. In the second part of my talk\, I will zoom into CGM scales to show how the smaller-scale filaments (or streams) influence the star-formation activity of galaxies\, and present the latest observational detections using a combination of the miniJPAS and DESI datasets. SUMMARY:The Occultation Portal: A Distributed Platform for Stellar Occultations
DESCRIPTION:The Occultation Portal (OP) is a scientific infrastructure originally developed within the ERC Lucky Star collaboration to support the coordination\, archiving\, and analysis of stellar occultation campaigns. It now provides the wider community with coordinated access to predictions\, datasets\, and analysis tools\, and supports several international programmes\, including our efforts at IAA–CSIC on trans-Neptunian objects and irregular satellites\, for which occultations are essential to measure sizes\, shapes\, atmospheres\, and ring systems. \nThe Portal has recently been redesigned as a distributed system\, combining centralized campaign coordination and data curation with dedicated analysis capabilities for resource-intensive workflows such as astrometric alignment\, photometry\, light-curve extraction\, and limb fitting. This architecture is designed to scale to additional sites through secure data exchange and automated synchronisation between nodes. \nIn the era of Gaia astrometry\, DR3 and beyond\, and the forthcoming LSST/Rubin survey — both driving a rapid increase in predictable stellar occultations — the OP is becoming an increasingly important data hub for the community. SUMMARY:TALES OF BLACK HOLES
DESCRIPTION:TALES OF BLACK HOLES\nINTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON ADVANCED BLACK HOLE PHYSICS\n\nBlack holes are among the most fascinating objects in the universe. From cosmological\, galactic and stellar scales\, where black holes are integral pieces in the formation and evolution of different structures\, to microscopic scales\, where the study of the fabric of spacetime and black hole interiors are interrelated\, black holes are ubiquitous in all research areas in which gravity is a prominent actor. A proper understanding of many aspects of modern physics requires being familiar with the concept of black hole; conversely\, comprehending black holes in all their dimensions requires extensive knowledge in diverse branches of physics\, including geometry\, thermodynamics\, fluid dynamics\, quantum field theory and numerical analysis. \nThis summer school will offer PhD and MSc students the opportunity to gain a solid understanding of the theory\, phenomenology and observations of black holes and acquire a broad perspective of current research tendencies. Lectures covering each of these aspects will be delivered by three leading international experts. \nThe school will take place in the historical Carmen de la Victoria at the heart of the Albayzín\, the old Arab neighborhood of Granada\, where all participants will be hosted on a full board basis. SUMMARY:Particle acceleration and non-thermal radiation in young star clusters
DESCRIPTION:Cosmic ray acceleration up to PeV energies has been suggested to take place in massive and young stellar clusters. The formation of a strong termination shock driven by the collective action of stellar winds in a compact cluster offers a promising location where efficient particle acceleration might take place. The subsequent hadronic collisions of these particles result into gamma-ray and neutrino production. \nWithin a scenario of particle acceleration at the cluster wind termination shock\, we compute the expected gamma-ray and neutrino signals from both observed star clusters from the Gaia satellite as well as from the overall Galactic cluster population\, evaluating detection prospects for both source and diffuse emissions from this source population by very-high-energy gamma-ray and neutrino instruments\, as CTA\, KM3NeT\, and IceCube. \nFecha y lugar: 18/06/2026 – 12:30 | Salón de ActosSilvia CelliSapienza University of Rome \n  \n

SUMMARY:Decoding the clockwork of repeating nuclear transients: unveiling black hole environments with optical polarimetry
DESCRIPTION:Repeating nuclear transients are quasi-periodic outbursts occurring in galactic nuclei\, driven by episodic accretion onto supermassive black holes (SMBHs). These events provide unique laboratories for advancing our understanding of accretion physics\, yet the innermost regions of most galactic nuclei remain inaccessible to direct imaging. More routinely observational approaches are therefore required to uncover the geometry and physical mechanisms governing these extreme environments. \nIn this talk\, I will present optical polarimetry as a powerful tool to probe the hidden structures surrounding SMBHs. I will show how polarimetric observations reveal the geometry of two different classes of repeating nuclear transients: ASASSN-14ko\, the most regularly repeating periodic nuclear transient known to date and a repeating partial tidal disruption event candidate\, and GSN069\, the prototype source of quasi-periodic eruptions. SUMMARY:Taking Pictures and Making Movies of Supermassive Black Holes
DESCRIPTION:Black holes are cosmic objects so small and dense\, that nothing\, not even light can escape their gravitational pull. Until recently\, no one had ever seen what a black hole actually looked like. Einstein’s theories predict that a distant observer should see a ring of light encircling the black hole\, which forms when radiation emitted by infalling hot gas is lensed by the extreme gravity near the event horizon. \nThe Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is a global array of radio dishes that has now successfully imaged the 6.5 billion solar mass black hole at the center of galaxy M87\, and the 4 million solar mass black hole at the center of the Milky Way – both exhibiting the predicted strong gravitational lensing. Subsequent observations have revealed ordered magnetic fields on horizon scales with implications on how black holes launch relativistic jets of material. What’s next? SUMMARY:The Index Diagram as a Tool to Disentangle Host Galaxy Contributions in Quasar Spectra
DESCRIPTION:We revisit the Quasar Main Sequence (QMS) by investigating the impact of the stellar component from the host galaxy (HG) on the emission-line spectra of active galactic nuclei (AGN). After identifying SDSS-DR19 spectra with broad emission lines\, we constructed the Index diagram\, a novel\, model-independent diagnostic based on redshift-corrected spectra\, designed to efficiently identify sources with significant stellar HG contributions and to classify AGN spectra into three categories: HG-dominated (HGD)\, intermediate (INT)\, and AGN-dominated (AGND) sources. \nOur QMS analysis shows that HGD sources predominantly occupy the Population B region\, typically exhibiting negligible Fe II emission\, while INT and AGND sources display similar distributions in the Population A region. Cross-matching with radio\, infrared\, and X-ray catalogues reveals that the strongest radio emitters are preferentially associated with HGD and INT sources\, whereas strong X-ray emitters are found among INT and AGND objects\, which also populate the AGN region in the WISE colour diagram. SUMMARY:SO Colloquium – Atmospheric Dispersion Correction to detect Exo-Earths: EXOTICA\, ANDES\, and RISTRETTO
DESCRIPTION:Astronomical observations with ground-based telescopes are affected by wavelength-dependent atmospheric dispersion\, due to the variation of the refractive index of the atmosphere with wavelength. In high-resolution imagers and spectrographs\, as used in exoplanet searches\, the use of an atmospheric dispersion corrector (ADC) is mandatory. \nState-of-the art ADCs will thus be implemented in EXOTICA\, ANDES and RISTRETTO. EXOTICA\, the recently proposed EXOplanet Tracker Instrument at Calar Alto\, is a high-resolution spectrograph for radial velocity monitoring of exoplanet candidates. ANDES\, the ArmazoNes high Dispersion Echelle Spectrograph\, is the high-resolution optical and near-infrared spectrograph for the ESO Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). RISTRETTO is a visible high-resolution spectrograph fed by an extreme adaptive optics (XAO) system\, to be proposed as a visitor instrument on ESO VLT. \nThe atmospheric dispersion has a strong impact on acquired images even after ADC correction. Fiber-fed seeing-limited spectrographs\, like EXOTICA and ANDES\, have different ADC requirements than diffraction limited instruments\, like RISTRETTO\, that imposes requirements at the level of few milli-arcseconds. On the other hand\, for planet-hunting spectrographs like ESPRESSO\, the ADC were over-engineered to reduce systematics to the cm/s-level. SUMMARY:SO Colloquium – What the Variability of Embedded Protostars Tells Us about Accretion: Past\, Present\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) has been monitoring eight nearby low-mass star-forming regions in the Gould Belt at submillimetre wavelengths for more than eight years to search for and quantify the time dependent brightness variability of the resident deeply embedded protostars. \nSecular variability is common among these protostars; greater than 25% of the sample show measurable long-term brightness changes and 10% show burst behaviour lasting months to years. We interpret this secular variability as reflecting changes in the mass accretion rate from the disk to the protostar\, as predicted by theoretical models of (proto)stellar assembly. For a subset of our sample we have contemporaneous mid-IR light-curves which allow additional constraints on the conditions responsible for the brightness variations\, confirming that the submillimetre variability is driven by changes in the dust temperature profile of the envelope. \nFurthermore\, we have combined\, for one source\, single dish and interferometric sub-mm monitoring\, which has allowed us to unambiguously recover a time lag in the variability at larger angular scales and use the results to confirm the envelope structure surrounding the embedded protostar. \nFecha y lugar: 28/05/2026 – 12:30 | Salón de ActosDoug JohnstoneNational Research Council Canada – Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre \n  \n

SUMMARY:Round table - Astrophysical Jets in Contrasting Environments and Scales
DESCRIPTION:Jets are present on multiple astrophysical scenarios\, from protostars to supermassive black holes. Despite the enormous differences in their energetics\, these jets appear to share several basic properties. Thanks to their proximity and the richness of their detectable multi-wavelength emission (free-free and synchrotron continuum\, as well as atomic\, ionized\, and molecular lines)\, the physical properties of protostellar jets can be studied in great detail\, together with their connection to the associated accretion disk\, the mechanisms responsible for their launching and collimation\, and their interaction with the surrounding environment. \nThe knowledge gained from young stellar objects may therefore offer valuable insights into jets in other astrophysical systems. SUMMARY:SO Colloquium - Origin and impact of protostellar outflows: the ALMA and JWST revolution
DESCRIPTION:The birth of stars\, and of planets around them\, is universally associated with a spectacular bipolar ejection phenomenon that extends from stellar to parsec scales. Its manifestations include a narrow and fast axial jet\, surrounded by a broader and slower molecular outflow carrying a large amount of mass. \nThe exact origin of these dual phenomena\, their role in the removal of excess angular momentum\, and their impact on star and planet formation\, have all been a subject of fierce debate and active research over four decades. \nIn this talk\, I will review major progress on these topics obtained from new observational facilities (from the optical to the millimeter range) and from enhanced modeling capabilities. SUMMARY:GCM simulations of ice giants and mini-neptunes: an overview of our understanding of the atmospheric dynamics of these planets
DESCRIPTION:Ice giants and Mini-Neptunes have a thick gaseous envelope dominated by hydrogen and helium\, enriched deep within with large amounts of water\, methane or other volatile compounds. Uranus and Neptune are the only known planets of this type in our solar system and can serve as a laboratory for studying this type of atmosphere. \nThe Voyager-2 spacecraft\, followed by numerous studies on large ground-based telescopes and the Hubble Space Telescope\, revealed intense jet streams and meteorological activity on these planets. Indeed\, the fastest zonal tropospheric winds in the solar system are found on Neptune (-400 m/s)\, while storm activity on both planets is no match for the gas giant planets. Despite these scientific motivations and advances in observational techniques\, the atmospheric dynamics of these planets remain very little known. To date\, global climate models (GCM) have never been able to reproduce zonal winds. The simulated winds were a factor of 10 to 100 lower than those observed. \nThe difficulties encountered in modelling atmospheric circulation on ice giants call into question the validity of the atmospheric circulation of mini-neptunes simulated to date by GCMs. The approximations to the primitive atmospheric equations used for the atmospheres of terrestrial planets (Earth\, Mars\, …) may no longer be valid in the case of H2-dominated atmospheres. SUMMARY:Semi-analytic Analysis of Galaxy Evolution from the Local Universe to Intermediate Redshifts: The Role of Environment\, Kinematics\, and Feedback
DESCRIPTION:Understanding galaxy evolution requires extracting physical information from integrated galaxy spectra\, including the coupled evolution of stars and gas. \nIn this talk\, I present a novel semi-analytic spectral-fitting approach that jointly and self-consistently constrains the chemical evolution of both stars and gas.The model incorporates gas inflow\, outflow\, and star formation processes\, and is fitted directly to galaxy absorption-line spectra\, while emission-line diagnostics are used to constrain the present-day gas-phase metallicity. Applying this framework to galaxies in the local Universe from SDSS-IV/MaNGA and at intermediate redshifts from COSMOS-WALL/LEGA-C\, we reconstruct their star formation and chemical enrichment histories in a self-consistent manner. Such analysis allows us to investigate how the interplay between gas accretion and outflows shapes galaxy evolution\, in particular how galaxies transition away from the star-forming main sequence and become quenched. \nWe further explore the roles of feedback from active galactic nuclei and supernovae\, as well as environmental and kinematic properties\, in regulating these processes. \nFinally\, I will discuss how forthcoming spectroscopic surveys such as WEAVE and 4MOST will provide critical data to further test and extend these scenarios. \nFecha y lugar: 13/05/2026 – 12:30 | Salón de ActosShuang ZhouINAF-OAB \n

DESCRIPTION:  \nClementina y los Planetas es un proyecto de Nauta Teatro y el Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía – CSIC que fusiona arte\, ciencia y tecnología para explorar el universo cercano a través del teatro de objetos y la astrofísica. \nMediante la historia de Clementina\, que viaja entre planetas en busca de un mundo sostenible\, se promueve el diálogo entre ciencia y sociedad\, fomentando la conciencia pública sobre la ciencia. \nA pesar de la seriedad de los adultos\, Clementina era una niña pícara y divertida. Conocida como “La escapista” le encantaba inventar mundos imaginarios y mirar a la luna. Su clase favorita era la de astronomía. Acompañándola a todas partes estaba su amigo imaginario\, Mr.Telescopio\, un señor elegante y estirado cuya cabeza era un gran telescopio blanco. \nUna noche y tras una discusión familiar se escapó\, se dirigió a su antiguo colegio\, subió al tejado y decidió mirar para arriba: quería ver la luna. En el firmamento todo estaba oscuro\, tanto que ni siquiera encontraba la luna. De repente\, apareció un gran haz de luz que se agrandaba a cada segundo. Quizás sea una estrella fugaz\, se dijo\, y decidió llamarla para pedir un deseo… \nEl haz de luz era un gran cometa\, con una gran masa viviente de rocas de colores blancos naranjas y tintineantes que se acercó ondulando por el firmamento hasta el tejado de la escuela a escuchar a la niña. DESCRIPTION:El corazón de la Vía Láctea ha permanecido oculto durante siglos\, escondido tras densas nubes de gas y polvo que bloquean la luz visible. Sin embargo\, gracias al desarrollo de nuevas técnicas de observación\, hoy podemos vislumbrar más allá y descubrir Sagitario A*\, el agujero negro supermasivo que habita en su interior. \nEn esta charla recorreremos el camino que llevó a confirmar la existencia de este objeto extremo: una historia de avances tecnológicos\, ideas teóricas y el trabajo colectivo de la comunidad científica a lo largo de generaciones. SUMMARY:SO Colloquium – Probing AGN Jet Physics Using Multiwavelength Observations
DESCRIPTION:Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) powered by supermassive black holes launch relativistic jets that emit across the electromagnetic spectrum. Studying this broad emission helps us understand particle acceleration\, jet structure\, and how energy is released in these extreme environments. \nIn this talk\, I will present recent multiwavelength studies that combine radio\, X-ray\, and gamma-ray observations of different AGN systems. This includes low-frequency uGMRT results from the Palomar-Green (PG) quasar sample\, which provide new insights into extended radio emission and its connection to accretion and jet power; broadband modeling of sources such as NGC 1275 and Pictor A\, revealing complex jet components and high-energy behavior; and constraints on the gamma-ray emission region in the quasar 3C 380 using radio-gamma correlations and SED modeling. SUMMARY:SO Colloquium – Metasurface enabled astronomical polarimetry
DESCRIPTION:The nanotechnology of metasurfaces is rapidly changing the landscape of applied optics. While traditional lensing systems may not benefit significantly from the new technology\, the ability of metasurfaces to manipulate light and its polarization state offers great advantages in applied polarimetry\, as in the case of the magnetic diagnostics of astrophysical plasmas. SUMMARY:Área de la Ciencia - Feria del Libro de Granada 2026
DESCRIPTION:Un año más\, el Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) y la Estación Experimental del Zaidín (EEZ-CSIC) se unen para coordinar el “Área de la Ciencia” en la Feria del Libro de Granada\, un espacio dedicado a la divulgación científica para todos los públicos. \nDel 23 de abril al 2 de mayo\, el Área de Ciencia albergará más de cuarenta actividades totalmente gratuitas en pleno centro de la ciudad: talleres\, charlas\, presentaciones de libros\, pódcast en directo\, … Se trata de la novena edición de una iniciativa pionera en la que ciencia y literatura comparten espacio\, tiempo y público\, una fórmula que ha empezado a implantarse ya en otras ferias del libro. Cuenta con el apoyo del CSIC a través de la Vicepresidencia Adjunta de Cultura Científica y Ciencia Ciudadana y de la Delegación en Andalucía\, y la colaboración de ESERO-Spain\, proyecto educativo de SUMMARY:ACS & NOMAD SWT meeting
DESCRIPTION:Esta semana ha tenido lugar en el Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía la reunión de los equipos científicos de los instrumentos ACS (Atmospheric Chemistry Suite) y NOMAD (Nadir and Occultation for MArs Discovery) a bordo del satélite ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter\, que opera alrededor de Marte desde marzo de 2018. \nEstos espectrómetros infrarrojos\, mediante observaciones de ocultaciones solares\, están permitiendo monitorizar con una sensibilidad sin precedentes la composición química de la atmósfera marciana. Algunos de los descubrimientos más relevantes de esta misión incluyen la detección de especies cloradas\, el estudio del efecto de las tormentas de polvo en el escape atmosférico y la caracterización de la composición isotópica de la atmósfera. \nDurante la reunión se han discutido los últimos avances científicos obtenidos a partir de los datos de estos instrumentos\, así como el desarrollo de modelos climáticos para interpretar las observaciones. Además\, se han definido los objetivos y las operaciones previstas para los próximos meses con el fin de maximizar el retorno científico de la misión. \n

SUMMARY:Exposición ‘La ciencia de Mortadelo y Filemón’
DESCRIPTION:Francisco Ibáñez (1936-2023) fue\, a su modo\, un gran aliado de la ciencia. El creador de los inolvidables Mortadelo y Filemón combinó en sus historietas el humor y la investigación científica con un ingenio mordaz\, mostrando la ciencia como un fenómeno cotidiano\, torpe\, exagerado y\, a veces\, absurdo. Pero siempre humano. A través de una selección de 39 portadas protagonizadas por estos míticos personajes\, el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) ha querido rendir homenaje a Ibáñez y a la comunidad científica a través de la exposición La ciencia de Mortadelo y Filemón. Crónicas disparatadas de la investigación en España. La muestra\, que ha sido producida por la Vicepresidencia de Cultura Científica y Ciencia Ciudadana del CSIC y cuenta con la colaboración de Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial\, se ha inaugurado este viernes 17 de abril en el patio del Ayuntamiento de Granada con la presencia de diversas autoridades. La exposición\, que se enmarca como una de las actividades estrella del Desgranando Fest –festival de ciencia en la provincia de Granada– y coincide con la Feria del Libro de Granada\, – donde el CSIC instala el Área de Ciencia–\, permanecerá en esta sede hasta el 3 de mayo de 2026. \nTres expertos del CSIC han colaborado en La ciencia de Mortadelo y Filemón: Fernando del Blanco\, del Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo (CID-CSIC)\, y Jon Arrizabalaga y Alfons Zarzoso\, de la Institución Mila y Fontanals (IMF-CSIC). \nLa muestra se estrenó en el Museo Casa de la Ciencia de Sevilla\, del CSIC\, el pasado 28 de noviembre de 2025\, con la presencia de varias autoridades y la hija del autor. Granada es la segunda sede\, tras Bruselas\, de una itinerancia que durará dos años. Tras su paso por Granada recorrerá otras ciudades españolas\, entre ellas Oviedo y Zaragoza. \n  \nObjetivo eliminar al “Rana” (1993) \n  \nUna exposición\, cinco secciones \nLa ciencia de Mortadelo y Filemón propone un recorrido visual y temático a través de portadas publicadas entre 1975 y 2018 que se dividen en cinco secciones. La primera es Un mundo en movimiento bajo la lupa de la ciencia\, un repaso por portadas en las que Ibáñez emplea su peculiar humor para explorar y retratar la relación entre ciencia\, naturaleza y sociedad\, con referencias que van desde el deshielo de glaciares hasta las epidemias\, pasando por los últimos descubrimientos en producción agrícola. \nEn Innovaciones tecnológicas incorporadas por la T.I.A. se recogen algunos de los inventos desarrollados o utilizados por esta agencia de espionaje\, que en no pocas ocasiones llevaban al caos. Pero la sátira del dibujante recuerda que la innovación solo tiene sentido si resuelve un problema real. Por su parte\, el Profesor Bacterio encarna lo mejor y lo peor del arquetipo del científico loco. \nLa sección El laboratorio de Bacterio\, aciertos y accidentes caricaturiza\, a través del humor\, los límites de la ciencia y recuerda los riesgos de separarla del sentido común porque\, cuando se trata de hacer investigación\, la ética y la seguridad no son opcionales. \nEn La ciencia en el espejo social de Mortadelo y Filemón los personajes son testigos de cómo la ciencia se negocia\, se distorsiona y\, a veces\, se malinterpreta. De ahí la importancia de difundir las investigaciones e innovaciones con rigor\, evidencia y responsabilidad. En las portadas seleccionadas hay sitio para la pseudociencia\, la vida en la prehistoria o la que existe más allá de nuestra galaxia. \nCierra la muestra la sección Ciencia de emergencia para tiempos revueltos. Ibáñez quiso arrancar una carcajada en medio del desastre. El cambio climático\, la contaminación\, los mosquitos invasores o las nubes de polvo sahariano son algunas de las amenazas a las que se enfrentan Mortadelo y Filemón con más o menos éxito en el último tramo de la exposición. \n  \nNuestro antepasado\, el mico (2010) \n  \nWeb\, catálogo e itinerancia \nUna web\, lacienciademortadeloyfilemon.csic.es\, amplía los contenidos de la exposición. En cada sección el visitante puede conocer a través de códigos QR las investigaciones reales desarrolladas por el CSIC en las áreas científicas que reflejan las portadas de Ibañez\, y relacionar así el imaginario humorístico del autor con la ciencia puntera que se desarrolla en la primera institución pública de investigación de España. \nAdemás\, la muestra va acompañada de un catálogo que recoge todas las portadas y los textos de la exposición. La ciencia de Mortadelo y Filemón itinerará durante 2026 y 2027 por las delegaciones y centros de divulgación del CSIC en toda España\, así como por otros museos de ciencia. \n  \nEl coche eléctrico (2013) \n  \nUn estilo propio \nFrancisco Ibáñez fue un prolífico autor que trabajó durante décadas en la editorial Bruguera. Allí creó numerosos personajes\, pero fue con Mortadelo y Filemón\, nacidos en enero de 1958\, con quienes alcanzó un éxito masivo. Su estilo se caracterizó por el humor visual\, los juegos de palabras\, la crítica social y una capacidad inigualable para reflejar la actualidad a través de la sátira. \nLas aventuras de sus famosos personajes (marcadas por el caos del profesor Bacterio y los inventos imposibles de la T.I.A.) se hacen eco de asuntos científicos del momento: las consecuencias ambientales de nuestra huella en el planeta\, los primeros trasplantes de órganos\, las propagaciones de enfermedades\, la ingeniería genética\, la deforestación e incluso los avances en el estudio de la evolución humana. \n  \nMortadelo y Filemón\, creados por Francisco Ibáñez\, protagonizan la nueva exposición del CSIC. \n  \nLa presentación de la exposición en Granada\, en fotos \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:SO Colloquium - Bursting and cool slowly rotating stellar zombies
DESCRIPTION:The large efforts put into studying the transient Universe in the past years allowed the discovery of a variety of new astrophysical classes and events\, many of them proposed to be related to the formation of a neutron star or a magnetar\, the most magnetic pulsars. Pulsars are unique astronomical laboratories where the most extreme gravity and electromagnetism can be probed. The study of these objects transcends the traditional astrophysical approach and requires a multidisciplinary effort that spans from particle and nuclear physics to astrophysics\, from experiment to theory\, from gravitational waves to the electromagnetic spectrum. \nI will review in this seminar what pulsars and magnetars are\, their observational characteristics\, their expected population\, as well as their connection with the most extreme extra Galactic events such as Gamma-Ray Bursts and Fast Radio Bursts. \nFecha y lugar: 0/04/2026 – 12:30 | Salón de ActosNanda ReaICE-CSIC \n  \n
