Abstract:
The thermonuclear deflagration of a carbon-oxygen white dwarf is the most plausible scenario for type I Supernovae. The only way to obtain information on the physics and triggering mechanisms of the explosion comes from spectrophotometry of their light curves. In this contribution we show the importance of sphericity effects on the diagnostic parameters (luminosity temperature) and on the inferred chemical composition. We also propose a simple and accurate method to calculate radiative transfer in such outbursts. © 1988.
