Unveiling the low surface brightness Universe

From the beginning of time, humankind has wondered what lies behind the darkness of the night sky. From the pre-telescope era to the present, our ability to see the lowest surface brightness details in the sky has improved by a factor of one million. In this talk, I describe how our vision of the sky has changed over time and how the recent developments in ultra deep imaging have speed up our capacity to discover new objects and structures in the sky.
