SO Colloquium – Jets across the scales: High energy Galactic Stellar Outflows

Jets have traditionally been studied at cosmological distances in systems such as active galactic nuclei and blazars in the very-high-energy domain. In recent years, however, they have emerged as some of the most efficient particle accelerators also in our own Galaxy, where several classes of objects are now detected up to energies of tens of TeV.
Their proximity allows us to spatially resolve — at least in some cases — the outflows, providing unprecedented insight into how these powerful accelerators operate. In this talk, I will review the latest results obtained for Galactic jets and winds, spanning scales from the kilometer-sized magnetospheres of pulsars to the multi-parsec structures produced by microquasars.
